Toyota Blind Zipper Foot

A Toyota blind zipper is a practical solution for inconspicuous closures.

The zipper has this name for a reason: it is hidden in the seam in such a way that it is no longer visible afterwards.
This is a great solution for elegant garments made of precious fabrics, such as evening gowns, but also for skirts and blouses. Blind zippers (also called invisible zippers) can be easily inserted with the Toyota Blind Zipper Foot.

How to insert a blind zipper

1. At the zipper slit (the opening in the fabric between which the zipper is to be inserted), mark the length of the zipper on the right side of the fabric with the fabric pen at both split edges. The zipper should be at least 2 to 3 cm longer than the final zipper slit.
2. Snap on the special blind zipper foot and select straight stitch, the needle should be in the center position. Choose stitch length 2.5 to 3.0 mm.
3. Open the zipper and use your thumb to slightly unfold the teeth of the zipper until the place for the seam between the zipper tape and the teeth become visible. Attention: never iron the zipper!
4. Place the right part of the zipper, right sides together, on the right edge of the zipper split. The teeth of the zipper should be exactly above the seam line, the zipper ends at the top about 1.5 to 2 cm below the top edge of the fabric, if necessary pin in place. Make sure that the zipper extends 2 to 3 cm at the bottom of the split.
5. Carefully press the teeth of the zipper slightly to the right and place the presser foot on the zipper so that the teeth are to the right of the needle at the notch of the foot.
6. Sew the zipper in place from top to bottom and tie off. Now close the zipper.
7. Place the other side of the zipper with its top edge on the right side of the left edge of the split. Make sure that the teeth of the right and left side start at the same height.
8. Open the zipper again.
9. Now carefully press the teeth of the zipper a little to the left and place the presser foot on the zipper so that the teeth are positioned at the notch to the left of the needle.
10. Stitch the zipper in place from top to bottom and tie off. Close the zipper.
11. Now sew up the seam under the zipper slit. Start at the bottom of the seam! To sew the seam closed, insert the regular zipper foot. The right side of the zipper foot and the presser foot holder should be exactly under each other. Move the needle to the right position.
12. Place the loose bottom of the zipper toward the seam and sew the seam closed as far as the last stitch of the zipper split.
13. Press the seam open.
