The 2-thread overlock stitch uses 1 needle and the lower looper. The upper looper is covered with an upper looper cover.
The 3-thread overlock stitch is used as a joining stitch, i.e. to join two layers of fabric. This seam is sewn with 1 needle and with both grippers.
With the 4-thread overlock stitch, you can sew layers of fabric together and finish them at the same time, preventing the fabric from fraying. This stitch uses both hooks and both needles.
With the 5-thread safety stitch with chainstitch seam, you can sew layers of fabric together and finish them at the same time, preventing the fabric from fraying. This stitch uses both hooks and 3 needles.
Roll hem is a stitch type where the fabric edge is rolled down or back. It is for light to medium weight fabrics.
